Nitric Oxide in Asthma
نویسنده
چکیده
Nitrogen monoxide, more commonly called nitric oxide or simply NO, is a fascinating free radical molecule, which participates in a broad range of important physiologic processes, including vasodilation, neurotransmission, and host defense. NO is generated from L -arginine by the enzyme nitric oxide synthase (NOS), of which there are three known isoforms. Types I and III NOS, found predominantly in neurons and endothelium, respectively, are constitutively expressed and are dependent upon calcium for activity. The third isoform, NOS II, can be expressed by a wide range of cells primarily after it has been induced by certain cytokines, microbes, or microbial products (1, 2). All three isoforms are dimeric, with each subunit containing iron protoporpyrin IX, tetrahydrobiopterin, flavin adenine dinucleotide, flavin mononucleotide, and binding sites for

Level of Nitric Oxide in Bronchoalveolar Lavage Fluid of Asthmatic Mice Model
Background: Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease with multifactorial and complicated mechanisms. Elevated level of exhaled Nitric Oxide (NO) in asthma and other inflammatory lung diseases has led to many studies examining NO as a potential marker of airway inflammation. Objective: This study was designed to determine the level of NO in Bronchoalveolar Lavage (BAL) fluid during early and l...
متن کاملAssociation of inducible nitric oxide synthase with asthma severity, total serum immunoglobulin E and blood eosinophil levels.
BACKGROUND Nitric oxide is released by immune, epithelial and endothelial cells, and plays an important part in the pathophysiology of asthma. OBJECTIVE To investigate the association of inducible nitric oxide synthases (iNOS) gene repeat polymorphisms with asthma. METHODS 230 families with asthma (842 individuals) were recruited to identify and establish the genetic association of iNOS rep...
متن کاملNitric Oxide in Asthma Physiopathology
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory airway disease characterized by allergen-induced airway hyperresponsiveness, airway inflammation, and remodeling. Nitric oxide (NO) derived from constitutive and inducible enzymes affects many aspects of asthma physiopathology. Animal in vivo studies have indicated that inhibition of iNOS may play a central role in the modulation of these features, particularly ...
متن کاملInducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS): role in asthma pathogenesis.
Asthma is one of the most common chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways of the lungs, affecting more than 300 million people all over the world. Nitric oxide (NO) is endogenously produced in mammalian airways by nitric oxide synthase (NOS) and is known to regulate many aspects of human asthma, including the modulation of airway and vascular smooth muscle tone and the inflammation. Asthmat...
متن کامل[Fractional exhaled nitric oxide in monitoring and therapeutic management of asthma].
INTRODUCTION Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease characterized by hyper-responsiveness and bronchial inflammation. The bronchial inflammation in these patients can be monitored by measuring the fractional exhaled nitric oxide. This study aims to determine fractional exhaled nitric oxide association with peak expiratory flow and with asthma control inferred by the Global Initiative for Asthm...
